International Schools in Seoul

Ages 3-18 · IB · Songdo · ~800 students

Chadwick is the right school if you are based in or near Songdo and want a full IB continuum in a well-resourced, California-affiliated setting. The fees are the highest in this guide; the Incheon location rules it out for most central Seoul families unless you are specifically relocating to the Songdo International Business District.

If your family is relocating to Seoul and wants one school for the whole age range - from nursery through to IB Diploma - SFS is the default choice. The 110-year history and 25-acre campus are real; ask specifically about the middle school before committing.

Dulwich is the cleaner, more contained choice for families who want strong IB results in a smaller school with less social complexity than SFS. If you are in Seocho or Gangnam, the location works well; if you are in Seodaemun or Mapo, the commute is a real consideration.

KIS Pangyo is the main event for American-curriculum families in the Seoul metro area - the largest, most established AP school in the region with genuine university partnerships and a 1,200-student community. If you are coming from KIS Seoul at Grade 5, or relocating for secondary, this is the natural first stop. The Bundang location suits families in southern Gangnam; from central Seoul it is a long daily commute.

Asia Pacific International School Kuala Lumpur is a British curriculum school operating in Malaysia's capital city. With limited public information available, it appears to maintain a lower profile compared to established Kuala Lumpur international schools like ISKL or Alice Smith School.

SIS is the right call for academically ambitious families on the American track who are willing to base themselves in or near Seongnam. The AP results are exceptional and the 53-year track record is real. If location is your primary constraint and you need central Seoul, look at YISS or KIS instead.

GSIS is the clearest IB choice for families based in or relocating to Suwon or the southern Gyeonggi corridor. For Seoul-based families, the 30-40 km drive to Suwon is a real daily commitment; model the commute from your home address before enquiring.

KIS Seoul is the natural choice for American-curriculum families with primary-age children in Gangnam. It covers PreK through Grade 5 only - families will need to plan a secondary transition at age 11, typically to KIS Pangyo or another school.

YISS is the best fit for Christian faith families wanting a large, community-focused American school with competitive sport and a central Seoul location. If Christian ethos is not a priority for your family, look first at SIS or Dwight before deciding.

Ages 2-18 · IB · Mapo · ~540 students

Dwight is the clear first choice if the IB Continuum matters to you and you are based in Mapo or Sangam. The full four-programme pathway from nursery through Diploma in a single school is rare in Seoul, and the 2025 average of 34 - well above the global norm - backs the academic promise. If you are in Gangnam or Seocho, weigh the commute carefully.

KKFS is a small, stable American-curriculum school that suits families who want a personal, faith-aware environment without the scale and social intensity of the larger Seoul international schools. The Gwangjin location is inconvenient for most expat housing areas; check the commute first.

LFS is the natural and usually only choice for French-national families in Seoul, or for any family wanting the French Baccalaureat as their child's leaving qualification. For non-French families, the instruction language is the defining filter: the core curriculum is in French throughout, with English as a subject, not the medium of instruction.

Quick orientation. HAFS isn't in Seoul. It's in Yongin, about an hour south. Mandatory boarding, three years, no day option. Students go home weekends only. If your friend wants their child living at home in Seoul, this isn't the school.
