In Brief
Chrisland is one of the biggest and best-known private school groups in Lagos. Several campuses across the city — Opebi, VGC, Lekki, Idimu, Festac, Ladipo Oluwole. Mixed Nigerian/British curriculum. Fees are at the top end of the Lagos market.
Academically people rate it. Strong WAEC and Cambridge results. Alumni network is large and well-connected, which matters in Lagos.
The honest concern is safeguarding. The school went through a serious crisis after the 2022 Dubai trip incident, and there had been earlier issues too — a teacher convicted of abusing a young child, and a high-profile bullying complaint from a Nollywood parent. After Dubai, Lagos State briefly shut all branches and ordered governance reforms. The school says it has rebuilt its child protection processes.
Locally the talk is split. People still send their kids there because the academics, facilities and social network are genuinely strong. But the trust hit was real. According to one parent commenting on the Dubai handling, "Chrisland leaving those children without supervision in their hotel rooms is beyond stupid." Another summed up the broader frustration: "a culture of silence."
What this means for your friend. It is a serious academic option and the post-2022 reforms appear real. But ask hard questions on visit: current child protection policy, how trips are supervised, who the safeguarding lead is, how complaints are handled, and the specific track record of the campus they're applying to (the campuses differ a lot in feel). If those answers are crisp and confident, it deserves a place on the shortlist.
Campus matters. VGC and Lekki tend to get the warmest word-of-mouth from the international/expat-leaning crowd. Opebi is the original and very established.
