MAC is a private, mostly-Egyptian American-curriculum school in New Maadi. Established 2001. Don't confuse it with Cairo American College (CAC) — different school, different price tier, different crowd.

Most families are Egyptian. The expat share is small. If you're hoping your kid lands in a heavily international peer group, this isn't that school — that's CAC or MBIS.

The vibe people describe is small, family-feel, hands-on admin. Teachers are a mix of Egyptian and North American. According to one parent, the children "have not faced any transition issues" and the smaller size means the admin actually knows the kids. That tracks with what teachers say too — collegial, trusting, low-drama day-to-day.

Where the picture gets more honest:

- Curriculum is straight American Diploma. No IB, no AP. One teacher noted the school has "no intention" of adding them. Fine if your child is heading to a US or Egyptian university. Limiting if you're targeting competitive UK or European unis. - Staff have flagged a pay gap between expat and Egyptian teachers, and limited progression. Worth knowing because turnover affects continuity. - Older forum chatter mentioned Egyptian ownership making calls that "run contrary to established educational practices" and some leadership churn at the top. Things may have settled — but ask current parents how stable the senior team is now. - Facilities are genuinely good for the price point — labs, theatre, sports courts, decent buses.

Fees sit well below CAC. That's the trade-off in a sentence: you get a calmer, smaller American-style school at a fraction of CAC's cost, but a less international peer group and a thinner academic ceiling at the top end.

What to ask on a tour: How many nationalities in your child's likely year group? What % of last year's Grade 12 went to US vs Egyptian vs other universities? Who's the current head and how long have they been in post? Is there any AP offering even informally?

Bottom line: a solid, well-meaning option for a family that wants American curriculum, Maadi convenience, and reasonable fees — and isn't fussed about a heavily expat cohort or top-tier global university prep.
