St. John's is worth serious consideration for families who want the full IB continuum from early years through Diploma in a smaller, more personal school - and it is the only option in Belgium for families who need boarding. The Waterloo location is a genuine consideration if you are based in Brussels proper.

BEPS suits families who want the full IB offering - including the rare Career-related Programme - in a genuinely small school near the Bois de la Cambre. It is not the right choice if you need a large campus, published exam results, or the lowest corporate-tariff fees.

If you want genuine Montessori pedagogy for the early and primary years, followed by a structured IB pathway through secondary, IMS Brussels is the only school in the region that offers both coherently. BJAB is the right call for families in Etterbeek, the EU quarter, or central Brussels who want a small British-curriculum school with reasonable fees and a personal community feel. The IGCSE offering is solid; check the IB Diploma timeline with admissions if your child will reach Year 12 soon, as the programme launches in August 2026.

The headline issue is overcrowding. Woluwé is the most stuffed of the four Brussels European Schools. Secondary is running at roughly 90% over its design capacity — about 2,000 kids on a site built for 1,100. Your friend will hear about this within their first week. It is real and it shapes daily life.

EEB3 is one of the four European Schools in Brussels, sitting on a wooded 14-hectare campus next to the ULB on Boulevard du Triomphe. It runs nursery through baccalaureate across seven language sections (English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Greek, Czech). About 3,200 pupils. Priority goes to children of EU staff; fee-paying spots exist but only if there is room.

The short version: it's the German-curriculum option in Brussels, and the only one. About 560 kids, ages 3 months to 18, leading to the German International Abitur or Fachabitur. Sits in Wezembeek-Oppem, a leafy commune east of the city with a real cluster of German-speaking families.

ISF Waterloo is a sound choice for families based along the Waterloo corridor who want a small British-curriculum school with strong pastoral care, IGCSE, and A-Levels at fees meaningfully below BSB or ISB. If the Uccle South campus suits your commute and you want the full IB continuum at fees well below BSB or ISB, Bogaerts is a credible choice. Families near NATO in Diegem have the North Campus as a closer option - ask admissions which campus your child would attend before enrolling.

The Courtyard is the standout choice in Brussels if you want the full IB continuum - all four programmes - in a genuinely small school, with bilingual education in your choice of two languages from English, French, and Dutch.
