In Brief

Long-established Nigerian school group, founded 1955. Multiple campuses: nursery and primary in Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Gbagada and Lekki; secondary boarding at Agbara (Ogun State); a newer day secondary in Lekki. Curriculum is a blend of Nigerian and British, with IPC at primary level.

It's a Nigerian school, not an expat international school. Most families are Nigerian middle and upper-middle class. Alumni include Yemi Osinbajo and CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso, which tells you a lot about who has historically sent their children here.

Reputation locally is strong and steady. Parents talk about it as a "safe pair of hands" choice rather than a flashy newer option. Heritage matters here. According to one parent, "Corona has not disappointed us as parents. It just keeps getting better and better." That tone, calm, loyal, generational, is typical of the chatter you hear.

Academics are taken seriously. Agbara holds NEASC accreditation (rare in West Africa) and reports a 76% distinction rate at WAEC. The Class of 2024 picked up scholarships abroad. Discipline is firm, behaviour contracts are signed on entry, and there's a stated zero-tolerance bullying line. One teacher described the homework regime as "strictly monitored". Expect more structure than at the British or American international schools.

Fees are moderate by Lagos top-tier standards. Primary in the region of N3m a year; Agbara boarding around N3.6m for 2025/26. Considerably cheaper than BIS, AISL, or Charterhouse.

What to weigh up: - It is Nigerian-led and Nigerian-paced. If your friend is coming from a UK or US system and wants pure British or IB delivery, this isn't quite that. - Class sizes are larger than at the small expat schools. - Campuses vary in feel. Ikoyi is the original heritage site, small and tight-knit. Lekki Abijo is newer with better facilities. Gbagada is suburban and very Nigerian in flavour. Worth visiting two or three before deciding. - Agbara boarding is well regarded but it's a long way out of Lagos, in Ogun State.

Bottom line for your friend: a serious, well-run, deeply Nigerian school with real academic credibility and a long tail of loyal families. A good fit if they want their child rooted in the local community rather than in an expat bubble. If they want a fully international peer group, look elsewhere first.
