In Brief
Quick orientation. The Harmony is the Vinschool campus in the Vinhomes Riverside community, Long Bien — east of the river. It opened in 2018 and runs primary through high school on a single site, with Cambridge IGCSE and A Level layered on top of the Vietnamese national curriculum.
Important framing. Vinschool is a Vietnamese bilingual chain, not a true international school. Tuition is roughly a third of what BIS, UNIS or Concordia charge. The student body is overwhelmingly Vietnamese. Foreign passport holders are admitted case-by-case. If your friend is expecting an international peer group for their kids, this is not that.
What people actually say. The campus and grounds get consistent praise — green, modern, well-equipped, and the eastern location means a manageable commute if you live in Riverside or Ocean Park. The Cambridge results stack up on paper. Parents who choose Vinschool tend to talk about value and the mix of Vietnamese culture with English-medium teaching (70 to 90 percent of class time is in English).
The repeated complaint, mostly from former teachers but echoed by some parents, is around discipline and management consistency. According to one former teacher, there is "no behaviour policy, no consequences for children." Another said the school is run "by people who have no true educational background" and that admin priorities sit closer to the commercial side than the pedagogical one. Take staff reviews with the usual pinch of salt — they skew toward the disgruntled — but the pattern shows up in enough places to be worth flagging.
Things to ask on the school visit. How big are the actual classes (primary ESL classes have run at 25 to 28). What is the behaviour policy in writing. How many non-Vietnamese students are in your child's year group. How is the school handling the gap between Cambridge expectations and Vietnamese-curriculum literacy in English. What happens if your child has any additional needs — historically Vinschool has been thin on SEN support.
Bottom line for your friend. Strong campus, strong Cambridge framework on paper, very competitive price. Best fit for a family who actively wants their kids in a Vietnamese-majority bilingual environment and is east-of-river anyway. Not the right pick for a family wanting a true international peer group or strong SEN provision — for that they should look at the established international schools on the west side.
