In Brief
NIMS Sharjah is one of the older, more established Indian schools in the emirate. Started in 1982, now around 3,000 pupils, K-12, in Al Azra near the Ajman border. CBSE up to Grade 7, then Kerala State Board from Grade 8 to 12. SPEA rates it Good.
The case for it: it's affordable. Fees are roughly AED 3,700-6,300 a year, which is unusually cheap for a UAE school. It has a strong Kerala community feel and is one of the only schools in the country that offers Tamil and Bengali as second languages. Board exam results are consistently strong.
What people actually say. Most parents are warm about the teachers. According to one parent, "all the teachers are very supported and cooperative" and they "really took time" with the kids. The principal gets mentioned a lot as approachable. One parent said "the dedication of the staff shines through the remarkable growth of each student."
Where to go in with eyes open. A few parents have flagged tired infrastructure - cockroach complaints, classrooms in rough shape, lab facilities thin given how many kids are there. A handful of families have also said the admissions process for KG1 is unusually strict and interview-heavy for a school at this price point. There's at least one account online of a child being asked to leave after Grade 10 because of average board marks - worth asking the school directly about their policy on continuation into Grade 11.
The honest read. For families coming in on a tighter budget, looking for Kerala-board continuity, or wanting an established school with a community around it, this one stacks up. It is not a glossy school. The fees tell you that. If your friend is coming from a school with newer facilities or smaller class sizes, set expectations now. If they're Kerala-board specifically, options in Sharjah at this price are genuinely limited and this is one of the better ones.
Two things worth asking on a tour: how progression from Grade 10 to 11 works, and what the class sizes actually are in the year groups they care about.
