In Brief
A bilingual K-12 in Binh Thanh, Saigon Pearl area. Vietnamese national curriculum bolted to a Massachusetts/Common Core framework, with AP courses up top. Modern campus, indoor pool, the works.
Key thing to know: this is a Vietnamese-majority school, not an expat school. If your friend wants their kid surrounded by other international families, this isn't it. SSIS, ISHCMC, BIS sit in that lane.
Where Wellspring fits: Vietnamese families wanting strong English alongside the local curriculum, or expat families (often returnees, mixed Vietnamese-foreign) who specifically want their kids to keep Vietnamese. Fees are well below the full-international schools.
What people actually say: parents are generally warm about the early years - safe, nurturing, attentive teachers. Reviews skew positive on tone and pastoral feel. According to one parent, it's "such a good place for kids."
The harder edges, mostly from staff and ex-staff: the curriculum has been called resistant to change, and there's a recurring grumble that academic feedback to parents can be softer than reality. One former teacher said management is "hostile towards foreign teachers who attempt to focus on teaching rather than lying to parents about how well their kids are doing." Take with salt - it's one voice - but the theme repeats.
Accreditation: muddled online. School lists WASC and College Board for AP. Older reviews dispute this. Worth your friend asking directly and checking the WASC database before signing.
Portability: if there's any chance the family moves on from Vietnam mid-schooling, push hard on what credits actually transfer. This is where bilingual hybrids tend to wobble.
Bottom line: a solid choice if you want a bilingual route and your child will likely stay in Vietnam through to AP. A weaker choice if you want a full international peer group or insurance against another move.
