In Brief
Misk is the flagship school of the Misk Foundation, set up by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It opened in 2016 and sits inside Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City in Irqah. Cambridge curriculum, IGCSE and A Level. Fees run roughly SAR 85k for KG up to SAR 125k in upper secondary. Class sizes are small.
The shiny version — campus, facilities, partnerships, royal patronage, recent COBIS membership — is genuinely impressive. That part is real.
What you actually hear on the ground in Riyadh is more mixed.
The most consistent gripe is behaviour and accountability. Many of the children come from very well-connected Saudi families and the school has had a hard time holding the line. According to one former teacher, the place is "run by parents and kids." Several reviews echo that — entitled cohort, soft consequences, parents who escalate over their child being told no.
The second theme is leadership churn and inconsistent academics. Staff turnover is high by international-school standards. Only about a quarter of staff would recommend it as a workplace. One teacher described "low teaching and learning expectations" and a "fake grading system." Worth weighting against the fact that disgruntled leavers post more than happy stayers.
On the positive side, parents who post publicly are warm — small classes, strong specialist provision, very well-resourced, and a clear sense of purpose around Vision 2030 and Saudi identity. If your friend's child is Saudi or wants deep immersion in the Saudi elite network, that is the draw.
What it isn't: a traditional Western expat school. The student body is overwhelmingly Saudi national. If they're after a British/American expat community feel, this isn't that — there are other Riyadh options for that.
Bottom line for the friend: Outstanding facilities and ambition, real questions about behaviour culture and consistency of teaching. Worth a visit, but ask pointed questions about staff retention, behaviour policy in practice, and how complaints from well-connected families are handled. Talk to a current parent who isn't on the marketing list before committing.
