In Brief
The basics. Only French school in Riyadh formally accredited by the French Ministry / AEFE. So if you want Brevet, Bac, and a clean re-entry into the French system, this is the one. Compound-style site in the north of the city, fortress-like security.
Who actually goes there. Heavily Lebanese intake — parents on expat forums put it at 60-70%, with some saying higher. That gives EFIR a more pan-Arab francophone feel than a school in Paris. Good for kids who'll mix with the wider French-speaking world. Less good if you wanted your child immersed in Metropolitan French — one parent noted staff are "majoritairement des francophones mais pas des français," and you'll hear a lot of Arabic in the playground.
Academics. AEFE accreditation does the heavy lifting — the curriculum is the curriculum, and Bac results have been solid. But parents are blunt about the day-to-day. According to one parent on an expat forum, "le niveau à l'EFIR n'est pas exceptionnel." A former teacher posted that they resigned because "le niveau de l'école n'est pas très bon." Upper-school (terminale) is reportedly stronger than primary.
Languages. The school sells itself on language teaching, but parents flag two things. English in primary is light — many families top up privately. Arabic follows a Lebanese curriculum, which suits some families more than others.
Admin. Repeated complaint: hard to reach, slow to respond, appointments needed days in advance. One parent said simply, "l'administration à l'EFIR est horrible." Bring patience.
Fees. Roughly SAR 40-50k/year all-in once activities are included. Non-French passport holders pay more, and new joiners pay more than returning families. Several parents feel the price has run ahead of the quality.
Bottom line for your friend. If you need French Ministry accreditation in Riyadh, EFIR is effectively the only door. The teaching gets the job done, especially higher up the school, and the international francophone mix is a genuine plus. Go in expecting frustrating admin, a Lebanese-leaning culture, and the need to supplement English at home. If French accreditation isn't a hard requirement, it's worth comparing against the British and American options before committing.
