In Brief
Quick note before anything else: Treston is a small private college, not a K-12 school. It's tertiary level — BS programmes in Culinary Management, Hospitality, Tourism, Business and IT. So this is for a college-age student, not a younger child.
What it is. Tucked into the University Parkway strip in BGC. Opened 2009. Genuinely tiny — class sizes are kept small on purpose, which is the thing people consistently like. Pioneered the BS Culinary Management programme in the Philippines and holds the American Culinary Federation accreditation, plus partnerships with the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute and George Washington University. For culinary and hospitality, that pedigree is real and unusual in Manila.
What people actually say. Students and alumni speak warmly about the staff and the personal attention. According to one hospitality alum, the school's facilities and teaching helped them land work with Marriott internationally. The vibe parents and students describe is "family-like" — small enough that nobody disappears.
The honest bit. Staff reviews paint a different picture behind the scenes. Recurring themes: heavy micromanagement, slow communication, and turnover. One teacher said the school's management "lacks effective communication" and that updates to parents are "often delayed or unclear." Another flagged that "every task, no matter how minor, requires approval from the dean." Take staff reviews with the usual pinch of salt — disgruntled people post more — but the communication complaint surfaces enough to flag.
Practical read. If your friend's kid wants culinary or hospitality and values small classes plus a BGC location, Treston is one of the more credible options in Manila. The accreditations matter for international career mobility. The trade-off is the size — fewer programmes, fewer societies, less of a traditional "college" experience than Ateneo, DLSU or Enderun. Tuition runs roughly P175,000-180,000 per year, modest by international standards.
What to ask on a campus visit. How responsive is admin to parent queries (test it before enrolling). Job placement rates by programme. Who actually teaches the kitchen and front-of-house labs — industry chefs or full-time academics. And whether the small student body suits their kid or feels claustrophobic.
