In Brief

GES is one of the older British-curriculum schools in Kuwait, around since 1980, big — roughly 2,500 students across about 40 nationalities. Selective on entry. Sits in central Salmiya, which is convenient for most expat areas.

The school passed its BSO inspection in 2023 and meets all the standards. Relationships between staff and students were flagged as a real strength. Inspectors did say teaching quality is inconsistent across the school and told them to fix it. That matches what parents say.

Parent experience is genuinely mixed and seems to depend heavily on which teacher your child gets. Some are very happy — strong friendships, good pastoral feel, kids settle quickly. Others feel the fees outpace what's delivered. According to one parent the curriculum lagged what their child had been doing back home, and resources in some classrooms were thin. Class sizes can hit 30.

Staff side is the bigger flag. Recurring themes from teacher reviews: turnover, weak middle management, low pay relative to peers. One teacher said staff "got anxious whenever any SLT wanted to speak to them." That kind of churn is what causes the teaching inconsistency parents notice.

Where it lands: GES is a workable choice, especially if Salmiya location matters or your friend gets a place when peers are full. It's not a top-tier pick. If they're choosing fresh and have options, BSK, NES and KES are the names that come up more often as safer bets for a first move. Worth visiting GES, asking specifically about staff turnover in the year group their child would join, and meeting the actual class teacher before committing.

Quick verdict: solid bones, decent community, genuine question marks on teaching consistency and management. Go in eyes-open and it can absolutely work.
