Aula sits up between Sarrià and Pedralbes, founded 1968, around 1,250 students from 3 to 18. Catalan school by character, with Spanish, English and French layered in. Bachillerato plus IB in the final years.

The reputation in Barcelona is consistent. Academically it's near the top in Catalonia. Kids come out well-prepared, multilingual, university-ready. According to one parent, it is "demanding, but it brings out the best in each child."

The flip side comes up just as often. It is known as an "up-or-out" school. Of roughly 120 kids in first ESO, parents report only around 70 finish Bachillerato at Aula. If your child can't keep the pace academically or behaviourally, you are quietly asked to look elsewhere. This isn't said openly at open days. It happens every year.

The atmosphere is formal. Parents stay in the corridor, not the classroom. One former teacher described instruction for the youngest kids as worksheet-heavy with limited creative play and quick correction over encouragement. Older students generally describe teachers as good and engaged.

Some parents flag a culture they read as competitive, even a touch elitist. Others love exactly that and say their kids thrive on it.

For your friend: this is a serious academic school with strong language outcomes, not a soft-landing school. If their child is academically confident and copes with structure, it's a strong choice. If the child needs a bit more time, warmth, or hand-holding, this isn't the one. Worth asking directly at the visit how they handle a child who struggles in Year 1 of ESO, and what their attrition between ESO and Bachillerato actually looks like. The answer is the school.
