In Brief
ENS MBZ is the original Emirates National Schools campus, opened in 2002 in Zone 3 of Mohamed Bin Zayed City. It is large — roughly 4,000+ students — and the cohort is overwhelmingly Emirati (90%+). If your child wants a school full of expat peers, this is not it. If you want them embedded in local culture, it is one of the best ways in.
The school is owned by the Presidential Court, not a private operator. That shapes everything. It carries weight, it is well-resourced, and ADEK rates it Very Good (2024-25). It also won an Outstanding rating on the National Identity Mark, which is unusual.
The curriculum is genuinely full IB — PYP, MYP and DP — layered onto American Common Core and UAE national subjects. Few schools in Abu Dhabi run all three IB programmes. AP is also offered in Grades 11-12. Facilities include an indoor pool, science labs and decent sports areas.
Now the honest part. Staff reviews on Indeed and Glassdoor are mixed-to-rough. Turnover is high. According to one teacher, the school "has gone downhill" with "random changes in the teaching schedule." Another said communication is "very poor." Parents on the public review sites are mostly positive — one parent said "the teachers are great and really helpful especially with weak students" — but the volume of parent feedback is thin, so weight it accordingly.
Practical notes. Buses run via Hafilat. Annual transport is around AED 5,000, canteen another AED 2,100-2,310. The MBZ location is a quiet residential zone — fine if you live in MBZ, Khalifa City or Mussafah, less convenient from the island.
Bottom line for your friend: a serious, full-IB school with a strongly Emirati identity and government backing. The academic offer is real. The watch-out is staff churn and operational consistency — ask current parents how this year's teaching team has held together, and visit before committing.
